Karen and Geoff Caldwell have operated Sunflower Glass Studio since 1978. They specialize in stained, fused, beveled and hand-painted glass. Their newest series of windows uses a patchwork theme that incorporates using the ancient art of glass painting and marries it with fused botanicals in a traditional leaded design. Botanical parts are made with glass powders and fused onto the glass. The hand painting has silver staining to create the delicate amber tones behind the painted surface. Hand beveled glass adds dimension and sparkle to the final product.
“A Pot of Gold” might be overstating it a bit, but it was a shared love of rainbows that inspired Karen and Geoff Caldwell to open Sunflower Glass Studio in 1978 and turn their fascination with beveled and colored glass into a successful artistic business. Karen is the designer and Geoff is the craftsman, and together they create beautiful windows and panels for houses and churches, as well as a unique gift line, and decorative hangings, among other designs. Karen is has always been inspired by nature and gardening and turned this love into beautiful hangings with the delicate use of fused glass. The detail and dimension that is formed through glass powders and frit allows the light to make flowers come alive.
